WINE & Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Juan Gil Wine

We now include wine in our portfolio simply because both extra virgin olive oil and wine are rich in antioxidants. They also complement each other to form part of the Mediterranean diet, which is one of the healthiest diets.

Over the last three decades accumulating evidence has confirmed that Mediterranean diet helps keep our heart and brain healthy. This diet plan is built around plant-based foods and extra virgin olive oil, and often suggests moderate consumption of dairy products and limited intake of red meat.

Other important elements of the Mediterranean diet are sharing meals with family and friends, enjoying a glass of wine, and being physically active.

Life is full of choices. We can always live a healthier and happier lifestyle if we opt for a more relax diet regime and focus more on what and what not to eat in our everyday diet plan. We can certainly do so with Juan Gil wines, if we consciously drink in moderation, drink in balance between health and enjoyment, and as much as possible drink together with our loved one.

Sourcing Methodology

We source our wines just like we do for our extra virgin olive oil – only the best and those that we love to consume ourselves are considered.

While the premium red wine, Juan Gil Blue Label, is produced from low-yielding, old vine, Monastrell, plus additional Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. This premium wine is powerful without losing that velvety character.

VISION

Bodegas Juan Gil is established in 1916. The Gil family celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016.

The current generation of the Gil family has set a clear vision and made a strong commitment to crafting high quality wines with great quality-to-price ratio.

OLD VINEYARDS

Juan Gil vineyards is more than 40 years old. The oldest Monastrell vines are between 85 and 90 years old, and their fruit is used to create the top-of-the-range products.

The vineyards are planted at an altitude between 700 and 850 meters on sandy, chalky, and stony soils, which are very poor in nutrients.

The climate is extremely dry, with virtually no rainfall throughout the year, and a long cold winter. Day-to-night temperature fluctuation is in the range of 25°C .

This kind of climate and soils are ideal for the growing of the Monastrell grape variety, and for that reason the characteristics make Juan Gil wines interesting and unique.

We have also noted that Juan Gil rarely uses pesticides and herbicides to care for its vineyards. They don’t have to as the grapes are happily grown in this kind of environment, climate and soils, with little or no disturbance from herbivores and pathogens.

PROCESS

The harvest is done manually from early August to late November. The grape is macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.

After malolactic fermentation and ageing of 4, 12 or 18 months in French and/or American oak, it is remained in stainless steel tanks until bottling.

WINERY

High technology is employed to control the temperature, hygiene and quality of the wines. It also uses technology to monitor the vineyards all year round to ensure excellent crops are harvested to produce the top quality wines at all times.

The winery is set right in the heart of the vineyards so that the harvested fruit does not have to travel far to the winery – this will prevent temperature fluctuations and retain the grapes’ natural aromas and freshness.
